Parking in Prague

Advantages:

  • Flexibility: You can book by hours, days or weeks according to your needs. And if your plans change, you can easily cancel your reservation, e.g. via the web form or the app.
  • Accessibility: Parking spaces are available in strategic locations throughout Prague, almost always with perfect public transport connections.
  • Security: Garages and parking lots are often equipped with CCTV, reception and/or physical security. Most of the time, these are not publicly accessible car parks, but e.g. office or residential buildings or hotels - so only a limited group of people have access to the vehicles. The locations are not guarded, just like 99% of public garages and parking lots in Prague.
  • Convenience: Simple and fast online booking system that saves time and stress. Wide choice of secure payment methods (from credit cards to Google Pay/Apple Pay to Paypal). You can enter and exit the garage repeatedly during your reservation.
  • Assurance: Your reservation guarantees the availability of a parking space when you arrive. And if there's any problem with your reservation, 24/7 customer support is available. And if your plans change, there's no problem cancelling your reservation until its beginning, completely free of charge.
  • Support: There is a non-stop customer service line where operators communicate in Czech, English and German. Therefore, in case of an unexpected complication, you will definitely be helped.

Disadvantages:

  • Some sites have a minimum reservation length (6, 12, or 24 hours), it is not an hourly parking
  • For really short-term parking ( 1-2 hours) the price is not advantageous, however for all other scenarios (parking for 5 hours during work or even for the whole weekend) it is advantageous.
  • Reservation in advance is required. However, it can also be made at the last minute when you arrive at the garage. It takes no more than 2 minutes to make a reservation.
  • Reservations cannot be paid on the spot in cash, they are always paid online during the booking process.

2. Parking zones (blue, purple and orange):

Parking in Prague is available in different zones, which are colour coded. These include blue zones for residents, purple zones for residents and visitors and special orange zones for short-term parking, e.g. near offices or hospitals. Parking in all zones requires payment immediately after parking (or a long-term permit for residents). Parking in the zones is designed mainly for short-term parking of a few hours. Parking for a day or more is generally not possible or does not make financial sense in the zones.

Price:

approx. 30-80 CZK/hour (720-1920/24 hours) depending on the zone and location (always stated on site)

Benefits:

  • Proximity to desired destinations.
  • Wide availability in the city centre.

Disadvantages:

  • The places are often occupied, especially at busy times. You only find out if you can park at all when you get there and then spend more time looking.
  • The maximum length of paid parking in blue zones is limited (1 hour in the centre, 3 hours outside the centre).
  • Purple zones, which are very rare and almost always full, allow a maximum of 24 hours paid parking.
  • Having to pay for every hour of parking - works out unfavourably for longer parking times.
  • Very high chance of receiving a fine if the purchased parking time is exceeded (licence plates of parked vehicles are constantly checked by special control cars with cameras).
  • Payment is made at parking ticket machines in local currency (also possible by card) or in the "Lítačka" app.

3. P+R (Park and Ride) car park:

On the outskirts of Prague, you will find P+R (Park and Ride) parking lots. These are outdoor car parks and several parking houses, some of which are located near the metro. The Park and Ride is set up by the city and is mainly for workers who commute to work in Prague from the surrounding districts every day, park early in the morning and drive back home in the evening. It is not intended for several days of parking during your vacation.

Price:

approximately 50 - 100 CZK per day.

Benefits:

  • Affordable if you park only during the workdays.
  • Strategically located on the outskirts of the city with direct access to public transport.

Disadvantages:

  • Often limited parking time to a maximum of 12 hours.
  • Limited capacity, especially on weekdays virtually all P+R car parks are full.
  • There is no occupancy information available online.
  • There is no possibility to reserve parking in advance.
  • Longer distance to the city centre.
  • Payment is most often made at parking ticket machines in local currency (card payment is also possible)
  • This service has no customer support.

4. Private parking lots and garages:

Private parking lots and garages are located all over Prague, but there are very few in the city centre due to the historical character of the city. These car parks and garages are often more expensive, often fully occupied in attractive locations and have very limited capacity.

Price:

approximately 50-150 CZK/hour (600 - 1500 CZK/day) depending on the location.

Benefits:

  • Often covered parking.
  • Close proximity to major attractions and shopping centres.

Disadvantages:

  • Very limited in the centre and wider centre of Prague - these are mostly shopping centres.
  • Higher price compared to other options mentioned.
  • Places can be taken during busy periods and cannot be booked and paid for in advance.
  • Until you arrive at the location, you have no idea if there will be availability or if your vehicle will fit in the garage.
  • Some car parks have limited opening hours and access to parked cars is only during the day, for example.
